Today was my very first day of my internship. ummm, kinda got off to a rough start. haha.
Last night I had a splitting headache and so I crashed early. I think I forgot to set my alarm clock, so I ended up sleeping an hour later than I had planned!! So I woke up in a ( Read more... )

the types of questions that you have, about building relationships... do you feel you can ask your advisor or supervisor about that? or maybe the teachers you work with if you feel you can talk to them? i know it was hard when i worked at the perkins school a few years ago. i wans't there nearly as often, but i do understand a bit of what you are going through. you should talk to jess strez a bit about this topic... she is working at the ivy street school, which is a school for kids who have brain injuries and behavioral problems, etc. she might be in the same boat and you guys can share notes. i would still also think about sharing your thoughts and fears with your supervisor/professor and cooperating teacher.

Yeah, I think I will do just that. I'll keep asking people what they think. I will talk to my supervisor about that because that is what he is there for and I should take advantage of that.
and if I catch Jess online, then I will see if she has had those same problems.
thanks

I am starting Friday and can relate to your anxiety. I am working with adults with major mental illness, when I am very much accustomed to working with kids.

There's a Lesley chapter of AATA meeting Wednesday the 24th at 7, Porter 403 if you're interested.

-So is anyone welcome to attend this?

I totally forgot that you're at Lesley!! We've probably walked right by each other!! What do you look like?

-Where is your site? It sounds a lot like Windsor House.

I'll send you the email I got...it was adressed to my art therapy grad core group, some professors...including shaun mcniff, and a bunch of people I don't know. (I was assuming it was the undergrad art therapy crowd, but maybe not.)

It is open to any Lesley Art Therapy student (grad/undergrad).

My site is in Taunton, MA at the Pathways Day Treatment Center.

It took me 2 and a half freakin' hours to get to Lesley today! I almost missed class. &^%$^&% parking. So, in total I spent 2 hours and 50 minutes in class and almost 4 hours commuting. That's just not right.

All of my classes are at Porter, so I am not really sure where you are. I am short with short curly hair...you know, just like half of the females in this world. In any case, I am at Porter Mondays 9-4, Wednesdays 1-4, and Thursdays 4-7. Maybe I'll see you around?

sorry that things started off so complicated!! it's great that the teachers are in higer spirts here, it seems like they need to be. and about the art try finger painting something that would stimulate there hands or nerves sorta like smaller kids, and try things with clay in such when you feel comfortable. i just think you being there will make a difference to them, because you were so wonderful with the other group at your last internship. this is a job that will certainly test your limits, and that's good, it will help you decide what group of people you feel most comfortable working with, but knowing that you could make it though working here will say a lot about your character and about your ability to be versitile. good luck, and remember it will take a bit to feel it out you know? i know you'll make the best of it no matter what.

Thanks for your suggestion with the finger painting and working with clay. I could do that with the higher level students.

But I'm still brainstorming ideas on what I should do with the severely impaired ones. The mess should be kept at a minimum, considering they put everything in their mouths. They'd end up eating the clay. DOH.

Thanks again. Your interview is tomorrow?

I feel for you...

My sister is in the same boat. She has one student in her class who is blind and deaf. Its kind of hard to implement learning to the student in the type of teaching environment she is in. I went to work with my sister a few times this summer to help her out, it is a challenge to say the least

But if you have the mentality and heart to do that type of work , well I give you my congratulations cause it is not for everyone and
definetly not easy.

Wanted to post about your latest entry but didnt ssee a post option. I have been going through the same sort of feeling through last 3 or 4 days. Just a feeling like something is going to hit me hard and just leave me feeling worse than I do. It isnt even necessarily for any reason just so much coming to me at once, and out of nowhere. It is weird as hell and I dont know what else to do but sit and wait for it to happen already...

the T is very confusing. I went to visit this girl im seeing in boston. I was quite confused, but I guess it just takes time

Thank you. I've been asking around for different ideas and people have been very helpful. I just need to get more comfortable with that population.

yeah, I have the Train pretty much figured out. I knew that I was supposed to get on the Braintree train but that morning I was so frantic that I just jumped on the first train that came by and then i was like ooooh fuck, nice one smarty. :P
