So, I've been watching the second season of "The Tudors" recently, and guess who just showed up? None other than your very own Thomas Cranmer! He carries his wife around in a crate.

Of course, I immediately thought of you! I was rather surprised after all that you told me about the dude that the people at Showtime would choose to depict him as a sort of simpering yes-man to king Henry VIII. He was a true believer in purifying the church of superstition and idolatry, but I'm not sure he was right to annul the king's marriage to Catherine of Aragon, or to make the king head of the church in England.

History hasn't been very kind to Cranmer. My own take is that he seized an opportunity to do something he genuinely believed in, and that he ended up getting his hands dirty because of it.

Why was his wife always in a box? Or is that something they added in the show?

The story has it that that was how she was transported because they were married in secret. It's not known whether there's any veracity to it.
