JB's, I hardly knew ye - the fate of rock and metal venues

Last week, an iconic rock venue in my area was finally sold at an auction, several months after its last ever gig. Because of the interest of land developers and issues with internal politics, not to mention the struggling economic climate, JB’s in Dudley had no choice but to shut down in January, 2011 - one of many other venues that have suffered ( Read more... )

To be honest, I can't really give a good answer to this question.

But, as someone who spent many, MANY, good nights in Jb's (at gigs, tribute bands and just DJ nights) I'm still gutted to see it go. I left England before it closed, and was really sad to hear how a venue with such history could be treated that way (I know the dwindling crowd numbers didn't help, but still...)

In all frank honesty, it's a horrifying story on how it disappeared. I agree with the view that England should give more leeway to preserving live music venues as part of its cultural heritage - the country's where metal began, after all!
