Riding In Cars With Anxiety-Ridden People

So, lately, I can't ride in cars. I really can't. Why? Because I have panic attacks every single time I get in one. Well, not EVERY time; for the most part it's every time we go on the highway. WHO THE HELL KNOWS WHY, but it is seriously uncool. Is it my medication wreaking havoc with me again? Abilify really does seem to ramp up my panic-attack ( Read more... )

Highways were terrifying at first for me too. But after awhile, I found them to be mostly easier than two lane roads, especially two lane roads I don't know. Maybe because on the highway, it's easy to read the signs, and there are multiple lanes for multiple speeds, and there are no stop signs or traffic lights or pedestrians.

You'll get used to it, really. (Spoken by a person who still can't parallel park without assistance, lol.)

Hillary's right, dude. Highways are the easiest. Merging onto highways is intimidating if it's a busy time of day, but once you're on a highway, you're just rolling, and it's all so much calmer and more straightforward. Sure there are some crazy drivers, but there are enough lanes that you can stay out of their way and there's not a problem. With good music, I actually find highway driving quite peaceful and relaxing. You get into a groove and the miles just float away.

Of course part of it is that I'm used to stick shift, which requires much more action from the driver on local roads than on highways (highways you're just cruising in 5th gear).

I'm reading that Cracked.com list, and so far I am laughing uncontrollably over "kitten archbishop" and "Watch drunken )) incest orgy on mothers day." I'm pretty sure I've gotten some of these emails before.

The commentary really makes it. I'm a big fan of "valley of the Jews" and "Want A One Night Stand? carcinoma."

Gahh! I'm sorry about the Ren Faire drive, especially since it was so unnecessarily long XD I was really scared of highways until about three weeks ago when I finally had to drive on them, and I realized that they are actually quite simple and less stressful than normal roads with turns and stop signs and traffic lights and anything other than just going straight for long periods of time.
