Having written not one but two of those damn letters (three if you count the one I sent to Georgetown instead), I have one key piece of advice.

Don't beg. Still, don't simply tell them "I'm coming back whether you like it or not" either. Instead, aim to say "I'm ready to handle the shit that this school is going to throw at me." And say it with confidence.

This isn't for your letter, but also make sure you have at least one class next semester that is easy/you feel like you're good at (aside from just having classes you like). Shop around and keep that in mind. Seriously, as much as I sometimes feel like my Russian class can be a waste of time, there have been days this semester when it's been the high point of my day just because for one hour I felt competent at something.

You are never a pain in the ass. It will be a pleasure to see you more often.

You say that like it's a bad thing!

Seriously, I do think a roommate would be good for you. Not so much with the silent judging- I speak from experience how shit that can be- but you're right- shutting yourself in doesn't help matters. It's good to have someone to make sure you remember to do things.
