With a boy like you, your middle name is "always"

New theory on life: I have actually stepped through a wormhole into an alternate dimension. One where I am an unbelievably lucky and fortunate person. I mean -- I'm not trying to say that I wasn't lucky before this. I've never known any sort of real hardship, I live on a mountain of white privilege (a metaphor shamelessly stolen from mcollinknight), et cetera. ( Read more... )

If you need help with DHFS-scripting, and your brother is not available, get in touch with me, I used to write and edit. Remember to write in funny music cues, sound effects, and make radio-safe dick jokes as frequently as possible. That's all you really need to know. (At least when I was there.) And write in female characters if you can, at least if there are as many females fighting over parts as there were the last time I visited.

Oooh, I love being namechecked. I am such a praise junkie, aha.

We're all so lucky <3 I love having those moments, realizing how awesome life - *my* life - is and all the cool things I get to do and see.

FENCING! Oh, I remember fencing. You're gonna get awesome thigh muscles ;)

I'm so happy you're writing for DHFS. That was one of the great joys of my time at Oberlin. Noir is just so... well, so goddamn awesome.

I can send you some sample parts if you want. But general rules:

- Don't rely on inner monologue. It's easy, and it's fun, and it's what we think of when we think "noir", but it gets boring faster than you'd think. If at all possible, tell the story through dialogue and, when necessary, sound effects. In other words, don't have Hardin tell the audience what's happening: just have it happen.

- Radio drama is about great conversations. Don't just have a conversation last barely long enough to cover what's in the beat sheet. Throw in some color. Some witty banter. Have them make fun of Hardin's name. SOMETHING. Just make it a real conversation.

You'll do great.

Yes. Great dialogue is important for anything dramatic, but especially radio where you don't have the visual element.

I still cannot believe that you can get credit for watching West Wing. That is goddamn awesome.

And that film noir thing sounds awesome too! American needs moar geekery.
