Curiousity getting the better of him, he puts on a friendly smile and strolls out into plain view. Perfectly quiet, of course, so it might seem as if he had simply popped out of thin air to the girl seemingly lost in thought.]

[He raises his hands defensively, an innocent smile on his lips.]

To be fair, you seemed to be in a bit of a daze... even if I made more noise, I don't think you would have noticed, so I probably would have startled you either way.
