Actually, prostitution can be amusing. As can homelessness and mental institutions (all of which I have experienced). Not all prostitutes are drug addicts, and many brothels go out of their way to make sure their whores don't inject anything. (I got my thighs searched.) Not all prostitutes are raped. Not all prostitutes experience violence as part of their work. Many do, I know - but not all.
