I liked "The Yellow Wallpaper." I'm in N.O. now. Are you using any volunteers?

at the moment it's really small so I'm not sure what the head teacher has in mind, but if any opportunities come up I will definitely post them here! the school's blog is: http://schoolatblairgrocery.blogspot.com/ if you want to learn more.

Maybe Judy Brady's "I Want A Wife," or Deirdre McCloskey's "Yes Ma'am."

I've used both for freshman composition, and my classes tended to carry a wide range of literacy levels.

Hey, I'm also in New Orleans. What school are you at? Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind...maybe?

It's called the School at Blair Grocery (http://schoolatblairgrocery.blogspot.com/) down in the lower 9th. It's brand new and is really small, basically just founded/headed by this one teacher who wants to use education as a tool for social change.

"Welfare is a Women's Issue" - Johnnie Tillmon
i'll try to think of a couple more readings we've done for my study of women and gender class that could help.
i second the knapsack comment from above.
