DFW HRC mtg. cancelled & members encouraged to atttend TDoR

The very cool blog, Pam's House Blend, posted yesterday that the DFW-area HRC was having a membership orientation as "a fun, laid-back evening" today from 6:30-8pm that would conflict with Transgender Day of Remembrance events in Forth Worth and in Dallas at 7pm. This information about one local chapter has been picked up and is being disseminated ( Read more... )

That's cool, and I know how that happens...but it's not exactly a warm letter, in fact it is the definition of cold.

(I then wrote a sentence on how they may be open..but it turned into a rant on HRC responding from a PR point of view rather than from what's right).....so decided I should drink my coffee and walk away.

But thank you for reach out to them and reposting.

Agreed, she was not warm. While defensiveness is not the best response to being called out, I expect it. My email was: "I looked at your calendar and find it remarkable that DFW HRC would hold a membership orientation to conflict with attendance at the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. 30 trans people have been murdered this year that we know of. HRC leaders and members such as those who took up a GEAR meeting last year to mend fences after ENDA could show some respect and support by attending either area TDoR event instead of ignoring the T in LGBT yet again." After that I listed the info. for the 2 area TDoR events.

My email clearly had been forwarded to a broader list they call DFWFC-Contact.

Gotcha. I'm amazed at the death of coalition building around the country. How difficult is it for HRC to just list big days on their standard calendar then work around them? Pride, Bi Pride, TDR, Coming out Day, MLK...etc and then see if there are any groups that they could network with that are doing events.

Anyway, its the same in SF :(

Yeah, a friend of mine walked out of a "party" in honor of this day because the organizer didn't really get what the day is supposed to be about. Thanks for taking the time to do that, Clark.
