Sooo there is a good chance there may be not a lot of job opportunities in the Veterinary field. I am considering becoming a nurse instead ( Read more... )

It's good that you're considering pay and all that future stuff, but make sure you want it and will enjoy your job. You do NOT want four years of stress and suffering for something you do just because it pays well.

Oooh and since I so plan to be a bitter old cat lady with an alcohol/ pill popping problem by 40, you can help feed the addiction with your easy access to medicine. :p

Nursing is quite the field! I'm quite envious you are doingthis and hope that it turns out super well for you.

Dai is right in that you should choose a field you really love - you told me once you wanted to be a librarian and this would be KINDA like a librarian for sick people. Think you can keep sorting?
:P

You are going to be great in whatever you do! Keep it up!

You didn't want to be a vet assistant though, right? The actual vet? My sister became a vet assistant in a relatively short amount of time, I think she's apprenticing as it though or something, I can't remember her taking any training. Then again, I've been in here since she got the job.

Everyone and their dog (bad joke) has that course, since it only takes a year. It doesnt pay so hot, and there isnt a lot of jobs.

I wanted to be an animal Health tech, with is somewhere in between Vet assistance and actually vet (4 year course)

However, I am wondering what job oppurtunity, once again, is like out here :/

Try checking out volunteer programs at the hospital before you sign up. They give you a good feel of what it is like to be in the hospital and with the patients all the time. I am a "junior volunteer" (read: candystriper), and if anything, I've learned I could probably never work in a hospital. They are seriosuly depressing places. People are always screaming and grunting and in pain, and it's easy to become numbed from it. It's always so sad to see people who are so frustrated because they can't even open the lid on thier juice.

There are tons of adult volunteer programs, to. Some people really love it, don't get me wrong. It's just best to scope it out and see the environment before you commit four years to it.
