Nostalgia

Not really sure why, but I've been missing my college & high school friends a lot lately.  I think people who know you growing up really know and understand you best--maybe better than any other friend ever will.  I have friends in Minneapolis, but certainly no one close enough to just drop by & hang out on a random afternoon.  It feels like when ( Read more... )

Exactly. This may be an oversimplification (if that's a word), but there's something about going through the same experience with others at the same time--it really creates a bond of mutual understanding. I wonder if it's possible to find that kind of friendship afterwards.

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto to so much of what has been said above. I think the timing of college/hs friends is especially prudent, too. You can finally take care of yourself, but that doesn't mean you're smart or mature enough to actually do so well. Learning to be an adult with someone is so much more powerful than one boring adult meeting another boring adult. Also, I think it might be the last time you are truly open and free with your peers; I know I'm much more guarded and judgmental now than I used to be.

PS I LOVE YOU CHARLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Guarded," that is EXACTLY what I'm talking about! I feel like I can't show my true self to people, because they just won't get it. Plus, no one really seems interested in getting to know me in the first place. And the less interest that people show, the more guarded I become, blah blah blah.

I especially feel like a lot of people I know here in MN are from the area--so they have plenty of old friends they still hang out with all the time. No such luck for me!

P.S. I LOVE YOU BACK!! Thanks for the warm fuzzy text message : )

This whole thread makes me feel so much better.

Deluded me actually thought for a second I was the only one feeling like a fish out of water.

The problem is that Alma is an exceptional college, and full of people who are far above average in almost every positive aspect. It was enough to give you hope in the human race, as dramatic as that sounds.

And now, between my job, living in a blue-collar town, and just the American norms, I'm so . . .um. . . .Charlie, you said it perfectly. I'll see you in Florida, come hell or hurricane or whatev. ;) And yes, let's room if the boys can't go. . .imagine a girls' weekend out!!!!!!!!!!!!
