Day 10
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.I'm not really a kinky person, tbh. I'm terribly, boringly vanilla across the board. But I do have one ironclad, will-read-in-almost-any-pairing kink. Adultery ( Read more... )

Interesting! I really enjoyed hearing about why you like that trope/theme/kink. I tend not to enjoy longer fics that deal with infidelity, because I think the messy human-ness of it is a little too real sometimes for my fic reading wants. I'm such a baby when it comes to angst in my fic!

But, when I'm in the mood for some dirtyhotwrong fic, infidelity it totally a kink for me to rachet up that forbidden factor. And some of my favorite fics I've written have infidelity as a major factor.

I actually really like that too although it very much depends on the pairing for me. I can't read it in my OTP (Snarry) as a general rule, although I've written it once. I really wanted to make Harry being unfaithful believable, so it's both H/D and Snarry, with H/D at the beginning, first, young, love then later on Snarry, then Draco returns. I kind of wanted to explore how human it is to both fall in love and to make bad choices on occasion and how difficult it can be when that 'love of your life' comes back into your life when you've grown up and your circumstances have changed, but how seductive the memory of a past love can be. I love the way you describe what appeals to you with a well done fic grappling with infidelity as it's the same for me. Reading about flawed characters making questionable choices has always appealed to me far more than the classic hero narrative with little or no moral ambiguity.

I was really excited to see HP Unfaithful is open for business again! I hope you enjoy your reading <3

♥ ! This is all exactly why I love it so much too.

Add in someone like Harry Potter, who we all want to see as a noble, moral character who we want to think could never hurt someone that way, and well. That's a story dynamic made for me.

GOD YES. Yes yes yes.

I also love the dramatic tension it can give me as a writer. I want so much to put characters in this exhausting, emotional, passionate place and watch them navigate it. It's such an addictive shortcut to ratchet up tension in a piece that sometimes I almost feel bad for relying on it. :) But I'm an angst whore, what can I say. Having the morally upstanding characters like Harry and Hermione deal with their infidelity, especially, is such a bullet-proof kink for me. Or a pairing like H/D, where even though I want them together, I can totally see how by not trusting each other at some point, someone was betrayed. And then they work that out. a;lksdfjsa.

Also, yay, hp-unfaithfulhp-unfaithfulhp-unfaithfulhp-unfaithfulhp-unfaithfulI've just been trying to change the layout a little bit (header I made, why won't you show up? woe ( ... )

I remember when I wrote an infidelity fic and it was so freaking hard for me, because infidelity breaks my heart, and you gave it such remarkable words of kindness and encouragement because it was a theme you loved, and it helped me get over my "how could I have written this painful thing imagining it wouldn't hurt the reader too?" feelings that were nearly dividing me from the thing I'd written. *hearts*
