Summary: If they were all different, that'd be nice, Luna thinks.
Hermione tugs her red and gold scarf tighter around her neck. She wishes she'd brought her gloves, too, her fingers were numb and cold as they gripped her books tightly against her chest.
She stops walking (her feet four inches beneath the surface of the snow) when she realizes Luna has stopped walking, too.
Luna is standing there, staring up at the sky, a look of wonder across her face, making her look ten instead of fifteen. As if she'd never seen snow before.
She had this faraway look in her eyes, oblivious to the rest of the world, including Hermione.
She stood there awkwardly, watching Luna watch the sky(or snow), wanting to get inside, but knew she couldn't leave her behind.
To break the awkwardness, Hermione says suddenly, "They say that no two snowflakes are the same, that they're all different."
Luna blinks rapidly, and looks over at Hermione, having forgotten entirely she was there, the odd look her eyes now gone. Instead, she looks at the ground as the snow continues to pile up. "They do?" she asks serenely. "But, how do they know? Has someone seen every single snowflake?"
Hermione shrugs, turning away, glad Luna's spell had been broken. "I don't know. It's just something I've heard many times before."
Behind her, she could hear the distinct sound of Luna's footsteps crunching in the snow. She hears her say, "I hope it's true. That they're all different. That way people can tell them apart from one another."
