She hates scary movies. She ducks and hides her face and flinches the entire time, seeking safety against her girlfriend.
She can't stand them, they make her jumpy and keep her up all night.
Sometimes they bring her to near tears.
They don't get to Mary Margaret nearly as bad. On occasion they make her jump but they don't haunt her nightmares.
So at first Mary Margaret can't figure out why Emma chooses them to watch.
Can't figure out what satisfaction Emma gets out of making herself watch movies that scare her.
She's just torturing herself.
But then it hits her like a brick wall.
Throughout all scary movies Emma cuddles against Mary Margaret, receiving hugs and kisses of assurance. She's even been known to sit on Mary Margaret's lap, cuddled close to keep her safe.
Those nights she gets an excuse to cling, the normally stoic sheriff so afraid to ask for anything or admit she needed help was allowed to let someone else protect her even if those particular demons were imagined.
From then on, on the nights Emma chooses some horror movie to watch Mary Margaret makes sure to check under the bed, relock all the doors and windows, and insist that Emma wear one of her nightshirts, for extra protection of course.
She holds Emma close as she can, whispering assurance and love that any other time would make the blonde blush and bluster.
And she borrows a few new movies from Ruby.
Just because.
