There had been small fireworks going off all evening, scattered here and there, before the sun had begun to set.
But, now that it had become truly dark, the stars were being out shined by the colorful 3D-like display of real fireworks, not little sparklers and firecrackers.
Rei and Minako sat beneath an old, bent elm tree on a red blanket (because the dry grass always made Rei's legs itch).
Minako would ooh, and aah every other minute, and sometimes gasp if they were really loud, but Rei opted to watch in silence.
Rei was not bothered by Minako's little noises In fact, it was comforting, because Minako was rarely ever silent, and it was a bit unnerving when Minako chose not to say anything at all.
Towards the end, when the fireworks were going off all at once, they're colors mingling into a color there wasn't a name for, the smell of smoke having become stronger, Minako's hand comes down on top of hers.
Rei instinctively stiffens, but relaxes almost immediately. She did not dare look down. Minako's touch had caused her own set of fireworks to go off inside her, her arm feeling as if it'd been given a jolt of electricity, her muscles tingling and twitching.
Suddenly she hears Minako sigh. "That was so pretty, wasn't Rei-chan?" she asks, turning to look at her. Her eyes had gone wide and sparkly.
"Yes...it was..." she agrees, trying to get her breath back.
