Zoe pulled on her pants. Then she pulled on her boots.
Inara was naked on top of the scarlet silk sheets and watched Zoe get dressed without comment.
"I'll see you back at the ship," Zoe said, strapping on her gunbelt. She gave Inara a look and a smile and left the hotel room the companion had rented for use with her clients for the few days they were planetside.
The sex had been a great relief. A release of the feelings that she kept bottled up most of the time in hope of avoiding complete collapse.
Zoe headed into town and went about finding the roughest looking bar. She walked in the front door just in time to see Mal and Jayne returning to their drinks, both sporting fresh cuts and bruises. On the floor over to the left of the doorway were four guys who were in a pretty bad way.
Mal caught her eye and raised his glass before draining it.
Everyone had their way of relieving their hurts.
