It went far beyond envy. Gracie hated Helena. Though the others didn't know it, Grace was sure Helena had been sent from the Devil himself. Sent to curse and destroy them all. The strange words she heard Helena whisper at night, no doubt talking to him, telling him she had infiltrated their society successfully and fooled them all.
But, Helena had not fooled them all. Gracie knew it from the moment she brought her a tray of food. The dark, blank holes that were her eyes surely meant she was not human at all.
The way Helena smiled at her(no it was grin, there were far too many teeth for it to be a smile) was devious, that she had a secret. Gracie figured she was awaiting further orders from the Devil about her next move.
She made it her mission to kill this woman before she could make her move. Because she would make her move first.
Gracie knew when to do it, for Helena was always alone at night.
