Summary: Kira watched and learned, but she learned so much more from someone else.

The wiry edges of the fence surrounding her high school dug uncomfortably into Kira's fingers, but she didn't care.

She'd seen Charlotte with that blonde woman again. It wasn't spying, Kira told herself. It was observation out of concern for her. They were family, after all.

But, it wasn't just Charlotte she was watching. She'd watched the woman as well. The woman who, after Charlotte left, would look over her shoulder to make sure she was gone, and would get out her cell phone. She would double-check to make sure Charlotte was out of sight while waiting for someone to answer. She would then mutter furiously into her phone, sometimes for only a few moments, other times for several minutes.

All the time she did this, Kira noticed how anxious she looked, the guilty shuffling of her feet, her posture hunched.

Instead of following Charlotte home from a distance like she always did, she would follow the woman this time. The most irate thing about this person was that Kira didn't know her name. But, she would find out soon. That was the first thing.

She would be covert, like usual. It would be too risky to be more aggressive and in-your-face, though. It would put her (and the people she worked) on her trail. Sniff her out. That would be a deadly mistake. She learned that from her mother. Put a safe gap between yourself and the target. Before she become the target herself. Dodging the bullet, she thought.
