Until now Maleficent had always been fine on her own.
She hadn't revealed herself to Aurora yet. The young queen was by the stream, crouching and using a wide fallen leaf as a cup, scooping up some of the pure water and sipping.
Phillip was with her again. He looked uncomfortable.
Maleficent felt a chill go up her spine and a dark notion of how easy it would be for him to become lost and fall prey to something dangerous in the Moors.
She wished she could be with Aurora. She wanted to kiss her and hold her and admit her feelings. She had planned to bare her soul tonight, but with Philip hanging around that was going to be impossible. She'd have to keep inside the secret she longed to share. She'd have to stay alone with the feelings that refuse to fade.
Maleficent had never cared about being on her own before, she had long expected that she would not find love. It had been part of what had allowed her to accept her darker nature
She watched Aurora for a while longer, thinking about how to get her alone and what she would actually say to her when it happened.
When Maleficent fluttered in to land beside Aurora Philip noticed the obvious happiness in his fiancé. Something that was never there when the fairy wasn't. He felt quite surplus to requirements when they were together. He wondered how long it would take Aurora to figure that out.
