Maudlin once more from the wine, she vaguely remembers a song she once had been fond of that her mother (hazy, it's all hazy) had sung to her before she went to sleep.
It was of a little bird who, perched on the branch of a peach tree, sung a delicate melody. It's singing would attract more little birds to sing with it. Bringing the moles out of their holes in the ground, the deers slinking over to listen, and then--
--that was all the remembered, but she was quite sure there was more to it.
In a semi-sober moment, she wonders if Marian sung it to that child (what was her name again? Cheryl? No wait, it was Charlotte.) That child. Would it be--?
