Over red wine, Esther noticed Doreen's teeth as she laughed drunkenly. They were hideous and misshapen, and wondered distinctly if men were as repulsed by them as Esther was right now.
She now remembered why Doreen annoyed her so much. For right now, she kept rambling on about her non-existent cat named Molly. She knew the cat didn't exist because Doreen had once told her somewhat soberly that she was allergic to cats, and therefore did not have one.
Onto another thought, Esther began to question in her head why the wine was making the other woman laugh. She'd heard that wine made people weepy and maudlin (but wine did not effect her either way, she always felt the same afterwards).
"Esther, listen, listen to this now--" Doreen insisted in a slightly slurred voice. "There was this one time Molly licked peanut butter off my spoon. It was truly hilarious, even now--"
Esther, not listening whatsoever, looked to her left, and it was of some relief that the bottle was more than half way gone.
