Sam’s not drunk. She’s only had a few beers and a splash of scotch from Roth’s private stash. The Endurance has a hearty supply of alcohol, although it should probably be a luxury on a ship, but Sam doesn’t feel like being drunk right now.
They’ve been at sea a while, but Sam still feels like if she blinks for a second she’ll miss something. She wants her wits about her, so getting completely wasted is a no-go.
It doesn’t stop her from overbalancing, deliberately bumping into Lara’s side, giggling and happy. She might not be drunk, but she is a little tipsy. Not that she’s ever needed an excuse to push up close against Lara, to savour the warmth of her skin, the obvious strength in Lara’s arm as it slings around her shoulder.
“Whoops,” Sam shrugs, shuffling closer.
Lara laughs and starts guiding her down the corridor. “Must be the ship rocking, making you unsteady,” she suggests, with a smile that says she knows exactly what Sam’s up to.
“Hmm, must be,” Sam grins. Lara’s arm squeezes her shoulders a little tighter.
Lara’s not drunk either. She’s too inside her own head for that, too caught up in the spirit of adventure.
Lara’s going to set the world on fire with her brilliance, and Sam’s going to be there to document every second.
But for now Lara needs to relax. Luckily she won’t need alcohol for that.
Not when she has Sam’s kisses to get drunk on instead.
