Lilly sprawled across her bed, attempting to read her biology homework. Why did professors think it was okay to assign 75 pages of reading? College was way overrated.
Miley was on her bed, strumming her guitar and singing under her breath. Every couple minutes, she’d stop and scribble something down in her notebook. Hannah songs had to get written somehow, but it was super distracting.
And Lilly’s headphones were all the way across the room.
Lilly grabbed one of her pillows and threw it at Miley; it hit her square in the head.
“Hey!” she cried.
“Hey, superstar,” Lilly said. “Don’t you have homework, too?”
“This is like homework,” Miley protested. “In a way.” She picked up Lilly’s pillow from the floor, and threw it back- harder than Lilly had done, and with vicious accuracy.
Lilly stood up, pillow in hand. “Oh, it’s on.”
Miley carefully set her guitar down, and grabbed her pillow.
After a brief but ferocious pillow fight, the girls collapsed on the rug between their beds.
“I’m glad I came to college with you,” Miley said quietly.
“Me too.”
Miley rolled onto her side, facing Lilly, and Lilly mirrored her. Miley reached forward, pushed a strand of Lilly’s hair behind her ear, and kissed her.
It felt- right. Like this was exactly how they were meant to be.
