“So you’re dating Oliver now?” Laurel asks, voice friendly, polite, interested. Anyone who saw them would just see two old acquaintances catching up, indulging in the expected superficial conversation.
They wouldn’t see the way McKenna’s eyes sparkle with mischief, the way Laurel bites her lip to keep from grinning for shared memories.
Those nights they spent together were few and fleeting, but they’re still burned into McKenna’s skin years later. Because Laurel had that reputation as the good girl who liked bad boys, but bad girls caught her attention too. And back then McKenna was just the right kind of bad to snag Laurel’s interest.
“Yeah, it’s new but it’s nice,” McKenna tells her. “I hear you’re getting serious with Tommy?”
And Laurel was never as good as people seemed to think. Because good girls shouldn’t get off on eating McKenna out in alleys, they shouldn’t let McKenna finger them under the table in diners at three in the morning. But Laurel let her, Laurel begged for it.
Laurel smiles, tucks hair behind her ear. “Yes, we’ve been together a while now.”
She was never together with McKenna, not officially. But they still spent those nights naked on McKenna’s couch, her face between Laurel’s legs, Laurel’s mouth on her skin. Fucking hard and wicked, seeing who could make the other scream longer, louder.
“It’s good to see you again,” Laurel says.
“You, too,” McKenna replies.
If their friendly hug lasts longer than could be considered innocent, that’s their little secret.
