Carol's coffee was still steaming when Beth showed up and ordered a latte with soy milk (Carol drank hers black with a little sugar).
Beth was fifteen minutes late, like the last time they arranged to meet here. She gave Carol a quick kiss on the cheek and sat down across from her, her face beaming.
"What happened?" she asks her.
Beth had dimples when she smiled. "I was going to text you, but I thought it would be better to tell you face-to-face."
Carol felt anxious "What?"
She leans forward. "Maggie's pregnant!"
She gasps. "Really? That's wonderful! When did she find out?"
At that moment, the waitress brings Beth's latte. After she's gone, she starts stirring it. "She found out last week, but she told me this morning. Glenn was with her, too."
Carol sips her coffee gingerly. "Is he excited?"
Beth shrugs. "He seemed to be, but he's probably nervous too." She sniffs her latte and carefully takes a drink.
Carol adds more sugar to her coffee. "It'll be nice, won't it? To have a niece or nephew."
"Yeah, or maybe they'll have twins. " She chuckles. "Poor them."
Carol laughs, too. "Maybe so."
