Summary: Rose/Jean - Rose pays Jean a visit
It’s always the quiet ones. Jean thinks as she pants. Dorothy had told her that Rose has had not one but two lovers die shortly after sex but she’d assumed that was a joke.
Rose moves up the bed to snuggle into Jean’s arms. Jean helplessly wraps her arms around the other woman.
On a whim, Rose had decided to swing by Jean’s after visiting family in St. Olaf. “I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you.” Rose had confessed. The next six days were a fantastic blur. Jean hadn’t wanted to rush Rose or make her uncomfortable but Rose had ended up initiating the first kiss. Then the rest was inevitable.
“I decided to stay at Bridget’s a little longer.” Rose had said hushedly into the phone to explain why she was a week later than she’d originally quoted.
In the morning, Rose wakes to the smell of pancakes. Wrapped in a silk robe, she finds Jean in the kitchen. “I was thinking we could go horseback riding today.” She says offhand.
Rose’s heart swells, “that sounds wonderful. I wish I could stay forever.”
“You can.” Jean says quietly, flipping a pancake. “You have an open invitation. It’s just me here on the farm. The dogs would love it. The cows would love it… and so would I.”
Rose pulls Jean into a kiss, no decisions having yet been made. The only thing that brings them back to reality the smell of burnt pancake.
