Forbidden Sweetness
I was innocent, once. A long time ago, it seems, although I know it wasn’t.
I remember how we’d hold each other’s hands, conspiring to some girlish mischief. I remember how I teased her about her fiancé and her wedding night. How she’d flushed so prettily, embarrassed and scandalized.
I remember… I remember the other things, as well. The sisterly embraces that grew into something more, the way she pulled back, stunned or suddenly frightened, when I kissed her that first time, and then drew me close again, kissing my lips, tasting my mouth, again. I remember how she’d whispered my name, staring, when I’d loosened my gown and let it drop. I remember the way she touched me, the slip of her hands on my body, the way she guided me to those sweet, forbidden places, and I burn, even now, even in this icy, grave-born body. I remember and I ache for her touch again.
Perhaps I was never so innocent, after all.
