You gently run your fingers through her hair. “You don’t always have to be strong, you know.”
A tear runs gently down her cheek. “Everyone expects me to be.” She sits up, wiping her eyes. “I’m supposed to be comforting you right now, not the other way around.”
You slide your arms around her, and pull her close. “Comforting you makes me feel better. It’s just the way I am.”
She pulls back and looks up at you, her eyes red-rimmed. “Thank you,” she whispers.
You nod and pull her close again, pressing a soft, gentle kiss to her cheek.
