It wasn’t as if she had never fallen for a “bad guy” but her feelings for them were always so fleeting. Fresh in her mind still was the last guy she liked, a rebel named Jet, who took his rebellion against the evil Fire Nation too far. She wasn’t that upset about him being evil, her feelings for him left her quickly.
But the princess of evil, the most merciless foe they’ve faced, Azula, she couldn’t shake from her mind. All the way to Ba Sing Se Katara looked back over hear shoulder hoping to see the dark-haired girl.

A/N: Katara is the “waterbender.” Azula is a “firebender.” “Bending” is basically having control over the element. It’s pretty simple. The Avatar is the “one who brings the balance” who Katara (and her brother) are protecting in the series, as he’s just a kid. Azula is form the "Fire Nation" which wants to capture and contain the Avatar.
Summary:

“You wanted to meet me?” the waterbender asked the figure by the wall of Ba Sing Se.
“So that lousy rebel did actually eventually bother to give my message,” Azula said softly, drawing Katara to move closer.
“What did you want to talk about?”
“How good of bait you’d make for the Avatar!” Azula said, a manic smile gracing her face as she firebended the other girl into a corner.
“Azula! How could you?!” Katara asked, bothered more by the other girl’s betrayal than the bright blue flames sweeping around her.

“Mai! You came!” Ty Lee said cheerfully, as she climbed down from the high wire.

Mai nodded, smiling slightly. “You told me you would be here. It’s been years since I’ve been to the circus.”

A goofy smile appeared on Ty Lee’s face. “Yeah, I remember the last time, we snuck out and ended up bring the whole tent down.”

Mai blushed and smiled.

“You’re a waterbender aren’t you?” a cheerful voice called out to Katara.
“Why yes, I am,” Katara answered, turning around to be greeted by a girl with braded hair.
“I’m Jin,” the girl said smiling. “You must be Katara. You’re hear with the Avatar, right?”
“Uh, yes,” Katara said, feeling a little nervous. Word must travel very fast in the outer ring.“Um, so you’re Jin?”
Jin nodded, and took Katara’s hand dragging her to a nearby ally. Katara cringed as her foot hit a puddle.

It was replied to with, “No go, Sokka suspicious.”

“I can arrange for Sokka to be busy…” came the response.

“But that would give you away.”

“I don’t care.” The last note said, as the sun was setting, the messenger sat down and rubbed his feet, after handing the paper off to Katara, commenting that he hoped there weren’t going to be any more messages.

The two stopped as soon as they heard footsteps on their corridor. Familiar footsteps. Thus the panic began.

“Hurry up! She’ll be back any minute!” Mai said, throwing her robes over her head. Her clothing was easy to put on and remove, her “partner-in-crime” had not so easy clothing.

“I’m going as fast as I can,” Ty Lee said, pulling her pants up, her eyes scanning the floor for her top, and her shoes.

The footsteps were right outside their door.

Mai was completely dressed, but Ty Lee was scrambling, as the door opened.

“Come now girls, I have work for you,” Azula said, a false smile gracing her face. Her brow frowned. “Ty Lee, why in Angi’s name aren’t you wearing any shoes?”

Mai breathed a sigh of relief. If Azula had caught them, it’d would’ve been over, for more than just their budding romance. Mai did like excitement, but sometimes wondered if her relationship with Ty Lee was too much.
