Title: Playing Pretend
Author: giantessmess
Fandom: The X-Files
Pairing: Dana Scully/Diana Fowley
Rating:pg-13
Word count: 250
A/N: setting is season 6/season 7 finale/premiere. Why there isn't more scully/fowley slash, I'll never know. sigh. another 250 'drabble' wonder.

You like to pretend the key appeared by itself. You found it, found him. That you only realized in hindsight, where it must have come from.

“You’re a liar. You’re both liars.”

You like to forget how you found me, leaving your apartment building, unwilling to have a confrontation.

“You used to care about him.” And you called me every name you’d choked back in your throat, since you first set your eyes on me.
But you didn’t hold back, when my lips brushed your ear.

“I do love him, Agent Scully.”

You pretend you never left your door unlocked on purpose. How many nights in a row? The lights turned off, so you could ignore my face.
“Diana,” escaped from your mouth without your permission, as I lowered my head, and found the spot that made you ache.
Your face colored, on the days after. You’d button your shirt to its highest.

You probably pretend you didn’t ask me. Beg me.

“I know you have something to do with this.”

When I just shook my head, you started locking your door again, and packed yourself off to find his cure, in something you didn’t believe in.

And after you found the key, you didn’t call. You won’t call. You have him back, don’t you?

I’m not stupid enough to think I’ll get away with this. Or crazy enough to think he’ll forgive me, or you’ll think more of me. I can only close my eyes, and embrace whatever’s coming.
