Maria sits heavily on the couch, covering her eyes with one hand and letting her head fall back.
“Rough day?” Pepper asks, and Maria can hear the smile in her voice.
“I hate congressional hearings,” is all Maria can muster. But it’s all she needs, because Pepper is already gracefully sinking to the couch beside her, pressing a drink into Maria’s hand. A cranberry martini, Maria’s favourite, and she groans for the first sip like she’s been waiting for it all day. Which she has.
“You know, you’re my boss,” Maria points out, rolling her head to look into Pepper’s eyes. “You don’t have to take care of me, I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be the other way around.”
“I don’t mind taking care of you,” Pepper says easily, and then she’s smirking, the heel of her foot running teasingly up the length of Maria’s calf. “Besides, I can think of plenty of ways for you to return the favour.”
“Oh yeah?” Maria grins as Pepper’s long legs swing over her lap, her hand settling high on Pepper’s thigh. “Anything specific?”
Pepper’s smile is broad and dirty, and she reaches for Maria’s drink, takes it from her and sets it on the table without breaking eye contact. “Oh, I have a entire list.”
Maria laughs, fingers digging into the warm flesh beneath her palm. “Well, in that case I better get started right away.”
Judging by the way Pepper cranes her head for a hungry kiss, she wholeheartedly agrees.
