"Wendy, darling, would you care for more wine?"
Wendy kept staring out the window. From the top floor of the three story house she looked out over smoky London and remembered. She remembered soaring like a sparrow. Agile. Free. Young.
Now in her mid-thirties it seemed so long ago. On the cusp of womanhood her life had been nothing but excitement and adventure. Now...
"Wendy?" Alice appeared beside her, a couple of glasses of red wine in hand. "Whatever is the matter?"
"We grew up," Wendy replied. She kept staring out at nothing in particular. Then finally she looked at Alice and took the glass of wine. She took a sip and swallowed loudly.
"We did," Alice smiled and put her hand on Wendy's bottom. "As I seem to recall you've quite enjoyed our grown-up activities."
"Yes," Wendy nodded. Her companionship with Alice had been very much a happy time. "But you know what I mean."
"I know," Alice took a sip from her glass. "I've been thinking you know. I think it's time we left London."
Wendy raised her eyebrows. "Where would we go?"
"Anywhere. Everywhere. You've seen Neverland. I've seen Wonderland. Here can never compare," Alice moved in close. "Let's just do it. Go down to the docks and leave on the first ship and never look back."
"Just because we grew up doesn't mean we can't be free," Wendy nodded.
"Our adventures are out there Wendy. Let's find them."
Wendy smiled and took Alice's hand. "Together."
