Aurora slept and Maleficent watched her.
They were curled together up a tree. The forest around them alive with small growing creatures, flitting and crawling around.
Maleficent reached and brushed the blonde hair from Aurora's face. She was beautiful and peaceful. And it reminded Maleficent of what she had done. The unforgivable that somehow Aurora had forgiven her for. She could have slept, just like this, for a hundred years. Maybe more. Maleficent would have never known the woman she would become. The companion. The friend. The lover. Just the thought of it almost broke Maleficent's heart again.
She knew the curse was gone, but there was an irrational terror that if she slept too then Aurora might never wake. If she stayed watching then Aurora was protected. Nothing could harm her ever again.
At peace and unaware Aurora slept. Maleficent watched her.
