...Well THAT was unexpected!
First off, let me get this out of the way: THE PANIC CAFE THAT IS BEING PERFORMED RIGHT NOW HAS NEXT TO NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PREVIOUS *PNISH* HONKOUEN. Ahem. Yes, there you have it. What it does have in common are the following:
1) Takes place in a cafe
2) The Junk Brothers are present and are bank-robbing brothers
...And that's about it. No Miyasaka-san. No Toumine. I'm not even sure if these were supposed to be Kouichi and Tsuyoshi, because the older brother called the younger one 'Shigenobu' twice and the younger brother called his brother 'niichan' as opposed to 'aniki' (ETA: TakiYuki mentioned at Monday's talk event that his character's name is Hiroki sooooo yes, officially has absolutely nothing to do with the original :/). The personalities were also quite different, with the older being kind of the same calm, cool character, but the younger brother being pretty calm himself and definitely nothing like Nitta's Tsuyoshi--which was something of a disappointment!
I don't want to say I was disappointed though: it was a really good, hilarious show, with a nice overall theme, just like the original had, but I was kind of excited to go in and watch *pnish*'s first real honkouen be performed again, and unfortunately I didn't get that :(
However, it was still a really good show, and despite continually waiting for the REALY Panic Cafe to start, and that never happening, I really enjoyed it XD The basic gist is this: Ken (Yoshikawa Sumihiro) is the owner of a little cafe that he inherited from his grandfather who died a year prior, and he runs it with a part-time worker (Iizumi Manabu...whose character's name I forget XD;). The cafe isn't doing very well, so to increase interest and customers, they decide to turn it into 'Panic Cafe,' where customers who order food (as opposed to just coffee or something) are drawn into a panic situation and made to believe they're in some sort of exciting danger, and then it's revealed at the end that it was all pretend, and the customer leaves after having had a good time.
They try this on a reporter team who comes in, but...turns out the reporters are not reporters at all and are, instead, the dreaded Junk Brothers (Takiguchi Yukihiro and Watanabe Hayato) who at first think they're really part of another hostage situation and try to turn the tables, and the get pissed off when they realize they've been had. Add to this situation an innocent bystander (super adorable and uber-KY uke-boy Akasawa Tomoru) who thinks the entire thing is an elaborate skit, and it's hiiiiiilarity.
Highlights of this show were:
1) Iizumi's character is supposed to show up as a policeman in the original skit, but he was unable to find a proper costume, so he got 'policeman-ish' clothes...which is a FEMALE stripper's outfit, complete with stripper heels, striped tights, short-shorts with a bright arrow pointing to his crotch, star-shaped stickers over his nipples, and another arrow pointing to his mouth. THE BEST PART OF THE SHOW HANDS DOWN.
2) idek who this Akasawa kid is BUT I WANT TO PUT HIM IN MY POCKET AND TAKE HIM HOME. He was just...god, his character was the most hilarious thing ever. An adorable mix of KY-ness and uke-tude that could shatter mountains. If he is not set to be in TeniMyu, MAKE HIM BE IN TENIMYU. I absolutely without a doubt must have more of this childyoung man (hush, he's turning 21 on white day, I'M ALLOWED TO FANGIRL HIM). Also I THINK HE PLAYED THE GUY IN HAKKENDEN WHO IS RAISED AS A GIRL. SO. I JUST LOVE HIM THAT MUCH MORE. I need to do some epic research on this boy. Just. JUST.
3) The aftertalk XD;;;; Oh, the aftertalk. I was actually super impressed with Wasshi, as he was 100% on the ball and together and an immaculate speaker! Mostly because, compared to poor poor Hayato...it was kind of impossible to be anything else. Hayato, you probably won't remember, was a hold-over from Western Mode, playing one of the extras, so he's already had experience in a *pnish* play and should be totes fine, right? WRONG XD;;; This boy, I have never ever in my three+ years of play-going here, seen anyone so absolutely and utterly scared shitless to be in charge of something and talking before an audience XD;;;;;; His last 30 seconds on stage when he had to close off the after-talk portion, it was painful to watch because you felt so bad for him! He'd obviously worked hard and memorized the flow, but he couldn't even get out 'goraiten arigatou gozaimashita' as the cutesy sign-off for the show XD; Everyone was giving him ganbares and all though, so...good job on him XD
4)
faded_lace, this is just for you :3 During the aftertalk, to decide WHAT to talk about, they chose random themes from a box, and the first one that came out had nothing to do with Panic Cafe, of course XD;;; "What's your favorite type of girl?" aka what type of girl do you want to date XD;;;; They went down the line with Yoshikawa, Akasawa, Wasshi, and then Hayato (these were the only ones present for the aftertalk at this show; Tuti will be at the evening show talking with TakiYuki and Zumi). Everyone gave pretty standard answers until it got to Wasshi, who kind of giggled and played coy a little before admitting he really likes "押しの強い人" aka really forceful, take-charge people :33333 idk about you, but I think a certain Sano sibling qualifies as such XDDDDD
There's probably a lot more I'm missing, but that's that for now! I'm going again Monday and can't wait XD it's really cause I want to see Zumi in that outfit again, negl
