So! How about that Dream Live 8th2011!
So to start off...I wasn't really expecting to be blown away by this because 1) cast who was not 5th cast was in it and 2) cast who was not 1st cast was in it. So already it couldn't beat DL7th for best fucking show ever, but...it was not bad at all!
The first thing that surprised/disappointed me was...the arena setup! At every DL I've been to (three of them now), the arena has always been set up long-ways, like this:
With the main stage at the far end and the catwalk extending down the center.
However, this time, they rotated it 90 degrees, with the stage spanning the left side (far more stage than was needed IMHO) and the audience facing that way. This cut down on the seats available for viewing and made it more difficult to have a good front-on view, but...that didn't matter, because while DL7th had been a completely packed house every night, this DL didn't even sell more than 10% of the topmost seats in the arena. Sadness! Not sure if they were on sale to begin with, but there WERE people sitting up there, so I assume? It definitely felt more toned down though.
Anyways, let's get to the details! Pros/cons GO!
PROS
--Despite there being so many teams involved, the main focus was on Seigaku and Hyoutei, which was fine by me!
--A VERITABLE FUCKTON OF GOLDEN AND DIRTY PAIR FANSERVICE. In the form of:
>>Golden Pair super super gay duet of Yume wo Tsunagou like they did in HyouteiMyu (but even gayer because they made it even more of a duet now) right on the heels of singing Golden Pair (albeit that song was a major doubles song that had other pairs singing/dancing with them)
>>Oshitari/Gakuto Katsun wa Hyoutei long duet + a good 3 minutes straight of JUST THEM on stage flirting and being adorable, culminating with Gakuto wearing himself out and Oshitari looking on, shaking his head and sighing, and then getting down on one knee (at this point everyone was hyperventilating because honestly can you blame us?) and saying, "Get on." and having Gakuto piggyback ride him off stage very obviously thrilled to get to ride his ~Yuushi~ <--I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF GUYS.
--lots of LASERS! :D I dunno, I just really liked lasers XD It looked like some kind of rock concert or something XD
--LOTS of old Hyoutei songs!! There were almost no other old songs (a little snippet of Run Run Run and also Season) that hadn't already been performed, but they went all out with Hyoutei! There was a full Hyoutei version of Koori no Emperor, Ore-sama no Bigi ni Boogie Woogie (DEM HIPS), and also...
--FUCK ME KIKUCHI TAKUYA ON A GUITAR SINGING AN ACOUSTIC SOLO OF KOORI NO EMPEROR?! YES THIS IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD. It reminded me of the chills everyone got when they let Kenn sing that acoustic solo of Ore wa Ore no Namae de Yobaretai in DL2nd. This was on par with that *___* Because he fucking played the guitar live on stage and sang his heart out. Then, as if that didn't make him fucking awesome enough, he played the guitar again while Mitsu came on and sang an acoustic version of Hand in Hand unfffffffff
--I'm not sure if this is something that changes every day...but during Tezuka's Kimi wa Dream Maker solo, there's a stretch where they played a video of Mitsu of all people talking about "Takkun" (Wada Takuma, Tezuka's actor) and how amazing he is and how he seemed cold when they were in a group but "When it's just the two of us alone, he's really gentle~" and what the hell why are you saying things that make me want to ship you?? It was a sad song mostly because it was about Tezuka leaving (since he isn't in most of RokkakuMyu is he?), so I'm wondering if they have a different cast member sing his praises every show? Guess I'll find out later! *going again tomorrow*
CONS
--There was one new song that they made for DL2011 and...idk, it wasn't that catchy? It wasn't HORRIBLE, and it'll probably grow on me, but on first listen it wasn't too awesome.
--THE TRAVESTY THAT IS WHAT THEY DID TO Juuden Kanryou ;~~~~~; They always manage to fuck up Golden Pair songs, how is that?! This time, they made it into some kind of strange uke-fest, where Kikumaru was dressed up in some 1920s hooker dress that looked like he did in DL5th and sang the song with Gakuto, Kaneda, and Dan (among some others, but those were the main ones). Ugh wtf. WHY. It's DL5th all over again, DNW SO MUCH.
And those were really my only complaints! I feel like the whole thing was worth the trip and ticket just for the Hyoutei songs and the fanservice ffffffff *____* A+++++ would purchase again <3
AAAAAND SLIGHTLY RELATED: there's a live-showing of NamaOtoko Nov 27 with Shouta, Baba, and Akki, and it sounded fun, but I didn't want to sit through an hour+ of Shouta and Baba flirting, so I declined.....................AND THEN TSUJI SAID HE WAS GOING TO JOIN IN PARTWAY THROUGH (he has another event before it) so uh guess who just bought a ticket XD
