So, Collin says that I just can't "live" in this house. I have to make it exciting. My head is a magnet for cookies falling off the fridge, my foot is a magnet for errant glass shards, and I tend to find black widows in the garage every so often. Ah, black widows. They totally look like the Shadow ships from B5. We have one living in the hedges by our back door. They're pretty harmless unless provoked - they tend to run rather than attack. We found a younger one inside the house a couple of weeks ago. It had managed to build a web in the course of an evening between the cats water dish and the wall. Fortunately the cats didn't attack it and get bitten. Apparently cats are very susceptible to black widow venom, and it's almost always fatal. Horses too. Bunnies are resistant though. Jill got it with a couple of styrofoam cups and threw it out.

But they're good for keeping the bug population down. They eat something like 2000 insects in their life. Probably why we don't have any problems with other bugs (except for ants...).
