Ok folks this is the deal. I have been corresponding with a great lady that I met through her. She has been encouraging me to get my poems and short stories published. This is the deal, I have no clue as to how to get this done and I really need everyones help with this. If you know how to get this accomplished or how I can go about getting this

there is also a book called "writers market" (i have the "artist market") it is a book full of contacts that you can use to get your ideas to publishing companies. the "writers market" is focused on the writing aspect, where the "artist market" is geared toward illustrators...
(speaking of illustrators, if you are in need of any visuals that you think i might be able to provide you with for those stories or poems... please let me know.)
i can show you my copy of "artist market" to give you an idea of what i mean. you definitely want to get the most recent version of the writers one because they update the contact information every year. likely you can find an older version at the library... but if you want to buy one, know that they are fairly expensive, so you want to be sure you want to invest in one.
