Retreat 2008

Wow. I had the most amazingly awesome time at the church retreat this year^^ It was so much fun and the speaker was really good:) I found out he's been to Dublin before tooXD And knows someone from my high school that was in my graduating classXD

I was originally going to do the blow-by-blow version of babble, but I don't really feel like it so here are the highlights of each day.

Day 1.

The cabin was okay. Like any other camp cabin. Overall, the place wasn't that much different from the one in Occidental. The speaker was awesome. He was originally supposed to come to our retreat last year, but he got really, seriously sick and wasn't able to come. He actually shared pics from various stages of his recovery. It was pretty gruesome:S We didn't do a whole lot the first day. I practiced for the youth worship we were going to have the next morning with the rest of the worship team. That was about it.

Day 2.

First thing in the morning as we were getting ready to go to the meeting hall, this spider dropped down from the ceiling and landed on a bag on the table. Like those ones in the movies that kinda drop down on a thin strand of spider thread all nasty like. I didn't really get a good look at it since I stayed as far away from it as possibleXD My sister said it had stripes:S That thing was pretty big too. Not like tarantula sized, but still fairly large. For icebreakers, we played this game where each person had to say their first and last name and then pick two random words that began with the same letters as their name. So for me, I did "Caribou Watching". I was originally going to do something big and long like "Czechoslovakian Watermelon" just to throw people off, but then someone did "gerrymandering rutabaga" (his name actually started with a "j" but we never ended up correcting himXD) so, I just went with the first one. After that was the youth worship so I played some songs on the piano with the youth worship team that we've been practicing for a couple months now. All us youth went in one big small group with the speaker and talked about how we met our best friend. Way later in the evening, I found that several people actually wanted to play Mah Jong so we played for several hours and it was really fun^^ I think we stayed up till 1 or 2XD

Day 3.

Sunday's icebreakers consisted of Telephone Charades and Steal the Bacon. You can imagine that those got pretty funnyXD Especially the charades. It's hard to figure out what people were trying to act out and it changed very drastically down the line. Steal the Bacon went a little better although some people slipped on the grass. That was also our group photo day. Oh! We were also in cabin groups and had to come up with a skit to go with whatever Bible verse they gave usXD Ours was Proverbs 16:16 which wasn't too hard to work with. But, we didn't really get much of chance to work on it since Kris had so many things she had to do:S We ended up only getting one time to run through it 5 minutes before we had to head over to the campfire. Luckily, she and several of our other group members were really good at improvising (unlike meXD) so it went pretty well. We'll have to do it again in a month or soXD

Day 4.

Today. We packed up our stuff. Oh, I forgot to mention that one of those days (I forget which), my sisters and I sat with the speaker for what I think was one of the lunches. We had chicken fajitas. He got to asking stuff about us and we found out that he's actually been to Dublin before. Not only that, but enough times to actually know street names as well as some of the shopping areas. I also found out that he know someone from my graduating class. That was so cool to find out. Didn't do much else:S Left and went home.

Oh. The speaker, whose name was Scott Shimada(which I probably should have mentioned up thereXD), showed us all these magic tricks that I will never figure out. Well, I figured out two of them, but I couldn't figure out the one where he hands out cards to various people and they have to guess which ones are black and red. When he flips them all over, they're all divided correctly:S Totally baffled me. And now I looked it up and it totally makes senseXD haha. But I figured out the other two just by watching him^^

So...I guess that was it:S A lot more stuff happened that made it really fun, but those were some of the most memorable moments^^ I'm so glad to be back home:) The food was okay sometimes...I wish the bathrooms had been better, but aside from that and the bugs, it was fun and I almost wished we could have stayed a little longer.
