Vehicle Stuffs

So I have been doing some research here, and talking to a coworker recently, found out that my Blazer might qualify for the CARS government program. Some things I'm gonna have to look into include what kind of loan I'll be able to get, but also what vehicle I should get to replace it. At the moment, from the Read more... )

I would do something sooner rather than later. The program already blew through its first $1 billion. Congress just approved another $2 billion, but there's no guarantee how long that will last.

There are also mileage requirements. In order to get the full $4500 credit, your new car must get a certain amount of MPG's over your current vehicle.

I would also consider the Honda Fit (which gets rave reviews on all points). The Mazda 3, while an awesome vehicle, gets several MPGs less than the Fit and would probably only get you $3500.

Check out www.cars.gov for official rules and plug in the numbers to see what you qualify for.

Yeah, I'll be looking into vehicles tomorrow and see what I can do, plus will be making sure my credit's even good enough to get something. And yeah, I'll be able to do either of the credits depending on which vehicle I go with. Got a decent amount of choices that I plan on test driving. My Blazer gets 18 combined MPG.

My S-10 gets 17, and the Fit got 28, which was enough to qualify for the full $4500. But, I'm not really ready to buy another car at the moment. I was hoping I'd have at least 6 months or a year, but at the current rate, that $2 billion will be gone in a couple of months.

The Fit runs around $17K, so if you get the full credit, that brings the price down to $12,500 which is fantastic for a car which gets pretty consistently fantastic reviews.
