Wondering about my user pic?

Wondering about my user pic? It's my farthest flung/earliest born ancestor I have a photo of. Actually I don't have it - it's in the State Library of NSW. It took a bit to prove it, and HE - Thomas Trevithick - is an interesting man. not famous. in fact, not buried in a marked grave. he lies somewhere in the cemetery at Hill End - he was born in ( Read more... )

My mum is doing her side of the family tree, together with distantly related family in England. So far she has traced as far back as a couple married in 1668, who produced a son who produced etc etc...

True it is! In my experience, Sydney papers in the 1800's reported details of the death of many of its poorest/downtrodden denizens. Our first paper, the Sydney Gazette, records some amazing tales, and is all available on line at: ndpbeta.nla.gov.au

You will see me paste articles from the Gazette here from time to time (see earlier entries). I find them intriguing, and amazingly written.
