old streets

I was searching for photos of an obscure street, Lower Campbell St, in Sydney (where some of my ancestors were living in the 1870's, 1880's). It's south of Hyde Park and there are no dwellings there now, but like much of the inner city it was once a slum-like area. my heart breaks for those people. i never seek out all aspects of history, but i didn't realize until now that i was ignoring the sad, real bits. i'm glad that you investigate it all. those rat hunters were unbelievable as well.

have you seen the tv film called shooting the past by stephen poliakoff? it's about a library archive (fiction), i really enjoyed the film.. you might like it.
