It's impossibly hard to make a difference if the person isn't ready or able to deal with it (I speak from experience). What it comes down to is that we aren't trained councellors and it is very difficult to deal with the issues of other people. Staying with her might have bought about some of the most stressful times in your life. Even though you liked her alot there'll be other fish in the sea, its a guarenteed statistic.

I might have broken Amandas heart by spliting with her but there was nothing i could do to help her and with uni i found it important to concentrate on that.

You can take the advice or leave iot but thats my 2 cents.

I think I'll take your words to heart. If I was to stay with her, my life would have revolved around her horrors, and I would have felt to guilty and sorry for her to break up with her (she has REELY had a shit of a life).

after I wrote that post, I felt a lot better, like a weight had lifted off my shoulders (cliché!)

Oh beleive me even if you stayed with her till she was about 40 she would still be hard to live with occasionally depressed and probably have post drematic stress disorder.. (not that I could imagine you married or anything weird but its just an example) how mysterious my mother is indeed
