Jet, Zuko, and a typical night in Ba Sing Se. The smugglers are new. Nothing else is. Alternate timeline from City of Walls and Secrets Pairings : None Warnings: None Based on this image, created by ferrrox
Oh my GAWD this one HURTS when is the next chapter PLEASE!
(ahem)
This was confusing as all heck at first, but I realized eventually that that was exactly what you'd been aiming for. I really hope that in the second half, you provide the Gaang as well as your readers with an explanation of exactly how Zuko ended up being Jet's rescuer so often.
In canon, after seeing Iroh heat his tea and figuring out Iroh and Zuko were firebenders, Jet settled for spying on them from a distance until that night he burst into the teashop, and after the fight all Zuko cared about was that the threat to him and his uncle was gone. What changed in this story's backstory, to make things so different?
I have the next chapter for this planned, but Katara is being a pain and a half and I need to deal with Azula. "How did Zuko end up in this situation" is all planned out.
Actually, now that you mention it, I have been meaning to write that story (and approximately eight others, but this one has a lot of loose ends that need tying up). The essential background comes down to "because Smellerbee and Longshot asked for his help," and "because Jet needs his help." Zuko likes to be needed/appreciated/liked, and it doesn't hurt that Uncle firmly approves of the venture.
//off to go work on that right now, because my brain doesn't like sleeping when it's dark out recently.
