What? The horses don't count as employees? That's speciesist, that is.

She should be paying extra licence (note how I kept British spelling) just for that.

Well done on the spelling- I'm impressed!

I can't believe the whole story- it's just ridiculous. It's not like she's charging extra for radio. What a buncha crap.

Lorraine up at the farm said she got a call from PRS, too. Bloody ridiculous. They go after the people they think they can scare into paying. They don't even have a radio on at the farm.

I wouldn't mind if they dished out the royalties fairly but the radio pot goes mostly to the copyright holders who are already getting the largest cut because it's done on a pro-rata basis.

Fukkin ridiculous.

Where are their terriers when the little guys tell them they never saw a red cent from five years of airplay on CBC?

I had a feeling it was something like this. ASCAP is much the same here in the US. Evil business.

I just can't believe needing a performance license to play public radio in a place where you're NOT charging admission!

It's the law that if you play music for your employees you have to pay a PRS licence, but to assume a small farm is an employer (without making polite enquiries first) is ridiculous. They tend to dance all over bewildered people in jackboots ( ... )

Yep- same thing here in the US. No one "little" gets any royalties, anyone with clout gets what they are owed. Same old, same old.
