I was actually having a hard time falling asleep last night thinking about things to pack up and put in that
We had to wait around a bit this morning as we were expecting a delivery. Aubrey the red bellied poicephalus is here to stay until Monday. Once he and dadgaderie had had a shower (the only person Aubrey will shower with properly) and we had all had some breakfast (eggs, bacon and corn tortillas- YUM) we started throwing things together into a pile to take up to the van.
It was only a smallish load- odds and ends mostly, like our collection of Navajo rugs, a small box of cds (which I sorted through so as to not repeat the last storage mistake all over again), sewing supplies, costume gear, an old carom board, a broken chair which is a very pricey antique and worth fixing but Mom hasn't gotten around to it yet, a teak head board for a bed that no longer exists, books we haven't read in years but can't bear to give up, kudrasslipper's tent from last summer (labeled so as to avoid confusion), an unopened Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game...
It felt SO GOOD to pile things up in that nice empty space and lock it up behind us. We were so giddy that Mom and I got on the cart and dadgaderie pushed us to the elevator. The elevator stopped one floor down and a woman got in with us. She said, "That's looks like fun."
Dadgaderie said, "I find it's practical keeping my wife and mother-in-law in storage and bringing them out for special occasions." We all dissolved into giggles, the elevator opened and we went our separate ways, still giggling.
Now dadgaderie's had his coffee, I've had some green tea, Aubrey has had a nutriberry, an almond and a bit of dried ginger. Mom's on the phone with an old friend back east, dadgaderie and I are at either end of the dining room table surfing the net and Aubrey has tucked his beak into his back feathers though he's not napping, he keeps peeking at us occasionally. And now it's started to rain.
Monday we play a gig down in Tacoma after which we'll drive up the other side of the Peninsula to avoid the ferry stay the night with friends and then bring back over a load of good stuff from the old storage unit.
I haven't felt this contented in ages.
Happy second of May, everyone!
