I have to admit that I always hated going to church on Christmas morning when it fell on a Sunday. Probably because we almost always go on Christmas Eve, so it seems a bit repetitive, and also because it always involves spending part of your Christmas dressing up and worrying about looking "Christmasy." I am definitely of the pajamas and cinnamon rolls variety on Christmas morning.
But I do see the absurdity of it all. Luckily, this dilemna only happens every few years.
We will be with my grandparents for Christmas this year, and I'm really not looking forward to going to their Baptist church (but then again I pretty much never do) that morning. It's like going to church almost takes the sacred part out, the part of worshipping with your family over breakfast, and replaces it with over-eager well wishes and altar calls. I am all about the silence and mystery of Christmas and I fear that may be lost this year, but will gladly trade it for being close to more of my family over the holidays.
