who knew the st johns passion had the most exceedingly beautiful rainbow and heavenly flowers blooming? german is just plain silly to me... when i hear it, it seems like someone is making fun of something... and when its the passion of jesus, well, its just completely disconnected and i have a hard time taking it seriously... i won't even explain

Remember when it was written(17th-18th century). Anything that is not a direct quote from the Bible is an expression of feeling. Bach's music is full of it.

I told Annette (Schellenberg) that my new favourite German word is "Regenbogen", but she insisted the English word is much prettier. I still think Regenbogen would be an amazing last name...
