Okay, for the writers in the f-list... I was just wondering... Who is your model villain? Where do you go for inspiration when writing villains?

*lol* Evil!Ptyx... Meeeeedo! ;0)

I don't think I could take a villain seriously if I based he/she on myself. *hmmmm*

Those forced to live outside society. *hmmm* Human villains are, indeed, very scary. Thanks for answering. :0)

Depends on the villain I'm trying to write, on what kind of evil I'm trying to portrait. So, I focus on his voice. If it's deranged, a good Disney evil witch will do. But if it's sly, Lucius Malfoy usually does the trick. If it's cruel, then, I have plenty of episodes of Criminal Minds to think about. For a number of years, it was Darth Vader.

Curiously, it was never Voldemort.

Voldemort is not, imo, I good example of villain, although the Horcruxes are pretty wicked. But his reasons are not well defined (at least, not for me).

Darth Vader is a hell of a villain, though! :0)

Thanks for answering, Lud.

Curiously, I found out that I don't have one, either. That was why I posted the question.

I think I need to start thinking about it, too, and see if I can find good examples I missed somehow.

Do come back if you think you found your. :0)

Originality can be a way of going when writing a villain, especially in fanfiction, but what about ofic villains? How can we aim for originality in that?! Tough...

I don't do it consciously, but since you asked the question I thought about it - for a villain I reach for a fear and make it human. The deeper the fear, the scarier/more evil the villain.

Ooooh, fears are powerful weapons of evilness! I'll have to give some thought about how I'd use that in a villain. Very interesting.

Thanks for answering, Ari. :0)
