I also keep returning to badfic, it has to be the train wreck syndrome. Or a missing gene sequence for self-preservation.
Lack of any kind of grammatical skills makes me nuts. Get a beta. Preferably that is a native speaker of the language you are posting in.
When authors have a really good fic and then take a completely unnecessary hard left. To either impress another writer they admire or to get more feedback. (Yes, I've seen that happen.)
Months and months in between updates. (You are not a total freak, that or we both are!)

I agree with you! I have a contractions thing too. I think of 'do not' as a strong statement and 'don't' as everyday slang or word useage. Maybe that falls into the native speakers' language catergory?
I am with you on the hard left's too. I shake my head and ask myself why????!!!!! I've written stories and recieved almost no comments or posts, and have written stories and gotten rave reviews, but I've never changed anything to cater to a fan or another author to impress or get attention. I've seen people do that too and I feel almost sad because most of the times that left should have been a right (which was the course the story was on) and just isn't the same after that. :(
Long gaps between updates do suck.
I'm glad I'm not the only freak, at least I know I'm in good company!! ;)

I think that contractions are a red flag to a non-native english speaker. And it's not natural in everyday convo for sure.
I also kinda get pulled out when people use words that are not part of their universe.. Lifestation is one that makes me nuts. It's not a current BSG vocabulary word.
I used to get discouraged when I saw people who write contrived angst get loads of reviews, but I won't do that to myself much less anyone else, so I've come to realize that I'll get less FB cause I write fluff, and not much smut .. LOL
I'm game anytime you need to have a good fanficgonewrong rant.. :)
well, if BSG is like your favourite drug, then fanfiction is the best replacement possible. and bad fanfic is like some other drug you take and gets you sick and trembling badly and wondering were can you get the real thing.
So yeah, i'm definitelly addicted to BSG, i'm a BSG junkie!! i would say the masochistic thing is relative to the addiction not the replacement drug... i don't know.
Oh god, I'm a fanfic junkie!!!! LOL So true though. When I read something back, I have a secret stash of favorite fic's I rush to to replace that icky feeling in my brain!
BSG is definitely my drug of choice, followed by Blood Ties. I've read tons of good and some bad in both fandoms and thank god I have a really great friend who's an avid fic reader like me. She's talked me off the ledge more times than I can remember!

I think you've diagnosed me correctly. LOL Thank you Dr. Maclau. :) Do you keep regular office hours? I may need to visit your couch every so often after a bad fix. ;)
